Game, Set, MATCH: Disney Advertising Signs Barclays As First Wimbledon Coverage Presenting Sponsor Since 2017

July 3, 2023
July 3, 2023

Qualifying for The Championships, Wimbledon took place last week on ESPN+, with Disney Advertising serving up an impressive lineup of advertisers - including new Tournament Presenting Sponsor, Barclays - as part of the games. Additional featured sponsors include IBM, Mass General Brigham, and Rolex. Each brand is leveraging the collective power of Wimbledon on Disney networks to reach the biggest and most engaged audiences during one of sport’s most timeless events.

“At Disney, we reach audiences at a global level – and as the exclusive home for the Wimbledon 2023, fans are watching our beloved content from all over the world,” said Deidra Maddock, VP, Sports Brand Solutions, Disney Advertising. “Through our best-in-class offerings and unmatched scalability, brands and advertisers are able to connect with fans in unique and creative ways that only Disney can provide.”

Barclays hits the court as the first Tournament Presenting Sponsor since 2017 and newest Official Partner of The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC). The brand will also be the exclusive sponsor of the Wimbledon telecast on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC. Barclays will have its on-site activations at the Wimbledon Grounds prominently featured in captured content. As the presenting sponsor of Championship Preview Digital Live Show on social, the brand will bring fans closer to the action with match and player previews, with additional video highlights and livestreaming elements.

Barclays is teaming up with Wimbledon to help local children in Bronx, New York better their future career aspirations through the sport of tennis. This program and Barclays’ partnership with Wimbledon will also be featured in a branded segment as part of ABC’s Good Morning America coverage of the event.

Returning as a sponsor of ESPN’s coverage, IBM, a long-term Wimbledon Official Partner, will power the IBM Match Insights, an AI-powered fact sheet that includes insights about each player, and the IBM Power Index Ranking enabling viewers to get up to speed quickly on the action – giving fans a world-class digital experience.

Mass General Brigham will bring fans detailed insights into their favorite players ahead of their matches through the Player Profiles feature. Additionally, Rolex continues its storied relationship with Wimbledon, once again sponsoring the Game Duration feature. Both brands will have custom integrations and visibility throughout the slate of matches.

Research has proven just how engaged brands and consumers are with Wimbledon on Disney networks. The Wimbledon 2022 coverage on ESPN networks reached nearly 31 million fans, up 31 percent from the previous year’s coverage. Additionally, ESPN’s digital tennis content reached an average of 1.9 million uniques per day, a 20 percent increase from 2021.

The main draw begins on Monday, July 3 on with coverage across ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, ESPN3 and ESPN+, with coverage from multiple courts all day, every day for 14 days through Sunday, July 16. Monday’s coverage will include matches across 18 courts, featuring defending Gentlemen’s champion and 23-time major champion Novak Djokovic, last year’s runner-up Nick Kyrgios, Ladies’ No. 1 Iga Swiatek, the return of former champion Venus Williams to Wimbledon, and top-ranked Americans Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz.
